PJ Morton occupies a rare position: critically acclaimed solo artist, multiple Grammy winner, keyboard player for Maroon 5, record label founder, and the most visible ambassador for New Orleans music in the digital age.
Born Paul Joneston Morton Jr. on November 11, 1981, PJ is the son of Bishop Paul S. Morton, founder of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. Growing up in that environment gave Morton both his extraordinary musicality and his deep understanding of music as communal and spiritual practice.
The Maroon 5 Years
Morton joined Maroon 5 as their touring keyboardist in 2012 and became a full member in 2013. His presence added depth to their live performances. But he never stopped making his own music on Morton Records.
Grammy Recognition
His 2019 album Paul won Best R&B Album. Each win validated the musical values he represents: craftsmanship, live performance, emotional authenticity.
New Orleans Is Forever
His 2026 album, conceived as a response to the climate threat facing his hometown, is his most ambitious statement — and widely considered one of the year’s finest records.
